

You'd have to wash your hands again or hand the tip before. A tip is also expected there, 5-10 pesos or loose change. If you go to the bathroom at a shopping mall, bar, better restaurant or gas station (it sounds silly that gas stations do the same thing as better restaurants, but it works that way) a guy might be standing there just to hand you the paper towels after you wash your hands. Handing 1-2 pesos might end up with the receiving person throwing them back at you, depending on the locale. If you were in a hotel in, say, Guanajuato or Morelia, where most clients will be Mexicans, then it will not be expected.

Mexicans don't really tip hotel maids, but if you're in a hotel that attracts too many American/Canadian tourists, it might be expected there, because these tourists do it (from what I gather from the forum).
